Jira reply FAQ
Straight answers about canned responses in Jira.
Start with Jira Service Management's native capabilities, then evaluate a shared app only when the workflow needs more.
Does Jira Service Management include canned responses?
Yes. Jira Service Management Cloud includes personal canned responses and responses shared within a service project, with rich formatting and a documented set of variables. Start with Jira's native feature when one service project's library and built-in variables meet the team's needs.
Can Jira canned responses be shared across multiple projects?
Jira Service Management's native shared responses belong to an individual service project. A separate shared-library app such as CloseReply is useful when the same governed response must be available across service, software, and business projects.
Can a Jira response template use custom fields?
CloseReply can insert available Jira custom fields by stable field ID and resolve them against the current work item. Jira Service Management's native canned responses provide their own documented set of built-in variables.
Can CloseReply add attachments or inline images to a Jira reply?
Yes. A CloseReply template can include up to five reusable files, with a 10 MB per-file and 20 MB total limit, plus up to five inline images. The sender reviews the selected media before confirming the reply.
Does CloseReply send customer content outside Atlassian?
No external network egress is configured. CloseReply runs on Atlassian Forge and stores templates, signatures, preferences, and reusable files in Atlassian-hosted Forge services.
Does CloseReply replace Jira Service Management's native canned responses?
No. Use the native feature when a service-project library and its built-in variables are sufficient. Evaluate CloseReply when teams need a governed cross-project library, custom fields, reusable media, layered signatures, or reviewed follow-up actions.
